1. During a flood event RBC will prioritise the delivery of sandbags to those most vulnerable and at risk of immediate internal flooding of habitable rooms (not garages or gardens).
2. Please use the RBC contact details below so that your call can be correctly logged and information shared with our teams.
3. RBC do not deliver sandbags to commercial businesses.
4. Be aware that during a flood event the road network may flood which can mean access and the delivery of sandbags to homes may not be possible therefore being prepared in advance is vital.
5. Check if you have a local flood resilience store in your area operated by local Town and Parish Councils as you may be able to obtain sandbags during an event from this location.
6. Finally please be prepared – if you’re at risk of flooding it’s vital to take steps to protect your home by fitting flood protection measures and keeping your own stock of sandbags.

The Mayor, Councillor Rowan Bird, and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Gareth Williams, were joined on stage at this year’s Christmas Market and Light Switch On by this year’s Civic Award Winners.

The four award winners were nominated for their work and commitment to the residents of Bingham. The Mayor said “I was delighted that residents were able to watch us present this years awards to four deserving winners. Their dedication to making Bingham a better place to live deserves to be recognised and I would personally like to thank them on behalf of the Town for their community spirit”

The first award was presented to Mark Richardson who was nominated for his work and commitment in supporting Bingham Community Events and Bingham Food Warriors. Mark also helped during the pandemic delivering food and medicines as part of Bingham Helping Hands. Mark said “I was surprised and honoured to have been nominated. It was a very proud moment to receive the award for something that I enjoy and also benefits the community.”

The second award went to Jess Paine for raising awareness of Suicide prevention and for her fundraising work for The Tomorrow Project and CALM. Jess also organises Henry’s Match each year to remember a beautiful young man that went too soon. Jess said “Its been the honour of a lifetime to fundraise for CALM and The Tomorrow Project, and to be recognised for it this week has been so humbling and encouraging. Always strive for the cause, believe in your work, and love radically. Thank you Henry James Campbell for being the inspiration we never knew we needed. You are loved beyond words, and you are not forgotten.”

Jon Chapman received the third award for his volunteer sound support at many local events. Jon attends to provide free PA equipment and his time at many local events including Music on the Square, Bingham Beer Festival and Classic Car Show. Jon also kindly helped at last years Civic Awards with operating the new lighting and sound systems.

The final award went to Andrew Mumford after his retirement from the Fire Service. Andrew was stationed at Bingham Fire Station helping to keep the residents of Bingham and the surrounding area safe and recently retired after giving over 33 years service to the local community. Bingham Fire Station attended the Christmas event and delighted the crowd with the fire trucks lights, siren and horn. Andrew said “I’ve really enjoyed my time with the fire service, but I’m looking forward to retirement with my grandchildren.”
