Network Rail’s contractor has cleared sections of the overgrown vegetation from behind the Western Avenue back fences which border the railway line. They have been unable to remove anything significant as the ditch blockage appears to be caused by a build-up of silt and other materials which will need digging out.

An urgent remit has been issued. Due to the nature of the work and the length of the ditch, which is estimated as more than 300 yards of clearance work, it will involve the use of some heavy plant. As a result, it is likely that it will require closure of the railway to do this.  The extent of the work required means this will need to be overnight when no trains are running and it may need more than one night of work.

More details on the date of when this work will take place have been requested.
