In response to the local petition that was submitted by Bingham residents to Rushcliffe Borough Council in 2021, Rushcliffe have agreed with Bingham Town Council to establish a local Improvement Board to:

• Deliver an action plan responding to the issues raised in the petition presented by the Bingham Deserves Better Group
• Support improvement in the Council’s wider governance arrangements
• Ensure that a range of voices, including those independent to the Council contribute to the development of governance at the Council
• Help the Council to develop a culture of respect between Councillors and between Councillors and employees

The Improvement Board comprises:

• Jonathan Owen: Chief Executive, National Association of Local Councils
• David Pye: Lead Analyst, Commissioning & Research Team for the Local Government Association,  and parish councillor
• Neil Taylor: District Council Chief Executive (retired)
• Rowan Bird: Bingham Town Councillor
• Gareth Williams: Bingham Town Councillor

As part of this work two days on the 18th and 19th of January, 2022 have been set aside for interviews with Bingham residents to hear their individual views.

The Board are looking forward to hearing a range of peoples’ views particularly about what improvements could be put in place for the future. So please make an appointment if you would like to participate in this process.

Applications for first admission (reception) and transfer to junior/primary school (year 3) can be made until 15 January 2022.

Remember to apply by 15 January 2022 – there are still 1617 known Nottinghamshire families still to apply for a reception school place.

It is important that parents of children who require a place for September 2022 apply by the closing date of 15 January 2022.  The best way to apply is online.

Parents are advised to check the admission oversubscription criteria for their preferred school carefully before completing their application.  Parents should not assume that their child will get in at a particular school just because the child attends the nursery, lives in the catchment area, has a brother or sister attending that school or the linked junior/primary school or lives reasonably close to the school.  Parents are advised to make use of all four preferences and ensure their application is received on time.

Last year, for admissions in September 2021, over 98% of parents who applied on time for a reception place were offered a place at one of their preferred schools.  We cannot stress strongly enough the importance of identifying more than one preference.  Of those families that were not successful for any of their preferences, 55% had expressed only one preference.

Of the applications received for a first admission (reception) school place in September 2022:

• in the Ashfield area – 85% have only made a single preference
• in Bassetlaw area – 90% have only made a single preference
• in the Broxtowe area – 78% have only made a single preference
• in the Gedling area – 57% have only made a single preference
• in the Mansfield area – 91% have only made a single preference
• in the Newark area – 86% have only made a single preference
• in the Rushcliffe area – 77% have only made a single preference

Parents can add or change their preferences up until 15 January 2022.

NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG:

Three new walk-in vaccination sites will open to the public from Monday (20th December) alongside tens of thousands of additional bookable appointments going live in a huge drive to vaccinate the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire public against Covid-19.

The new walk-in sites will add to more than 50 vaccination sites already delivering the life-saving booster jab to the public. The new sites will open at 1pm – 5pm on Monday 20th December and will operate from 9am-5pm, 7 days a week following that. The sites are:

• The Richard Herrod Leisure Centre
• The Victoria Health Centre
• The Newark Showground

The three new sites have been set up following the Prime Minister’s drive to vaccinate as many people as possible before the end of the year. The three sites will be walk-in sites and are each expected to administer up to 1,000 vaccines each day.
